Maintenance of Fiber Fusion Splicer

Clean the fiber V-groove

If there is dirt in the optical fiber V-groove, the reference position of the optical fiber will change and the fusion loss will increase. It is recommended to clean the V-groove regularly.


Clean the V-groove with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to remove oil stains and dust. If there is large dirt that is difficult to remove, push the cut bare optical fiber in one direction of the V-groove, and then wipe the V-groove with an alcohol cotton swab.

Cleaning objective lens

If the surface of the objective lens becomes dirty, optical fiber observation will be affected, which leads to high fusion loss. Therefore, the lenses of the two objective lenses should be cleaned regularly, and the lens of the objective lens should be cleaned according to the following steps:

1. Before cleaning the objective lens, first turn off the power supply of the fusion splicer.

2. Gently wipe the lens surface of the objective lens with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Start from the middle of the lens with the cotton swab and wipe it circularly until the edge of the lens is screwed out. Finally, wipe off the residual alcohol on the surface with a clean dry cotton swab.  Be careful not to hit or touch the tip of the electrode rod when cleaning.
Clean the fiber presser foot.
Dust on the fiber presser foot will cause the fiber to be not tightly pressed, causing the fiber and the blue V-shaped groove to be not tightly attached, which will easily lead to increased fusion loss.  Clean the fiber presser foot with a cotton swab dipped in alcohol and wait for the alcohol to dry before fusion.
Clean electrode
If the electrode is used for a long time, the electrode tip will have oxide deposition, which will affect the discharge stability. The electrode tip should be cleaned regularly, and the electrode tip can be wiped with an alcohol cotton swab. Be sure to turn off the power supply before cleaning the electrodes.
Clean the contact point of wave lamp
The contact point of wave lamp will affect the conductivity of the contact point due to dust covering, which will directly affect the use of the machine. It is recommended to wipe with alcohol cotton ball before each use to keep the contact point bright.
